We’re less than a week from the start of the NHL’s free agency period. A lot of attention will be paid to where Mitch Marner, Sam Bennett and Brad Marchand will land, there’s another goal scorer out there that will surely attract attention from fans and for NHL betting as well.
Nikolaj Ehlers produced yet another solid season with the Winnipeg Jets. Despite only playing in 69 regular season games, the Danish wing finished third on the Presidents’ Trophy winning Jets with 63 points. That was one off his career high set in 2016-17.
Ehlers joined the Jets in 2015-16 after Winnipeg chose him No. 9 overall in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. Barring any last-minute deal, the 29-year-old will be an unrestricted free agent on July 1. Ehlers had 24 goals, ranked fourth on a squad that was third-best in the NHL in scoring. The veteran tallied five more goals in the playoffs – tied with Kyle Connor and Mark Scheifele for the team lead – even after missing five postseason games with a foot injury.
While he will certainly attract plenty of attention, several NHL insiders have reported he prefers a quiet location, which might play in favor of his current team and for Winnipeg Jets betting in 2025-26. That’s why we’re giving long odds to Los Angeles, Boston and Montreal.
According to Sportrac.com, Winnipeg has $26.5 million in cap space, but the Jets have five roster spots to fill. They also want to resign center Gabriel Vilardi, who scored 27 goals last season and is a restricted free agent. Vilardi, 25, is also three years younger than Ehlers.

Last season, the team ranked 20th in offense, and while they have five players who scored 20 or more goals last season, Utah could benefit from an upgrade on its second line to go along with Logan Cooley and Dylan Guenther.
